Lovely Rita: My Life Between the Exit Signs

A story of film, told with still images and music: Anne Marie Fürthauer and Martin Stepanik transport their band project Lovely Rita into the movie theater and create a very personal correspondence between live music and screen event.

My Life between the Exit Signs has its origins in Fürthauer’s multitude of photographs taken from the same seat in the Austrian Film Museum over a period of years. In their entirety these “freeze-frames” tell a new and original story; a tale springing from the visual diary of a spectator and a precisely arranged remix of film styles, film icons and film eras.

The newly projected images serve as “conductors” for the musicians who perform in the dark of the Film Museum’s “Invisible cinema”.
