Program December 2021 / January 2022
(December 12, 2021 to January 12, 2022)
Through January 12, 2022"Nobody's perfect!" is the famous closing line in Billy Wilder's international hit Some Like It Hot (1959) with Marilyn Monroe. For the Austro-Hungarian Jew born Samuel Wilder in 1906, however, the path to success in Hollywood was marked by perfectionism. Our selection of his films will show the evolution of his work over each phase of his career.
Through December 22, 2021VALIE EXPORT is one of the most influential artists in the world. Her work combines a multimedia art practice and theory with feminist concerns. In her various forms of expression – including drawing, conceptual photography, installation, sculpture, and performance – film and video play a central role. One of art's major transgressors, she has always moved back and forth between media and categories such as analogue/digital and physical/virtual.
December 23 and 24, 2021At Christmas – with a screening on the early afternoon of December 24 – we will be showing the MGM classic The Wizard of Oz (1939). This year on December 23, we will show a different kind of Christmas movie: Nicolas Winding Refn's very special Viking odysee Valhalla Rising (2009).
Each TuesdayWorks by Kenneth Anger, Martin Arnold, Stan Brakhage, Robert Breer, Cinématographe Lumière, Joseph Cornell, Aleksandr Dovženko, Georges Franju, Ernie Gehr, Peter Hutton, George Kuchar, Gregory J. Markopoulos, Jonas Mekas, Pat O'Neill, Charles Ridley, Paul Sharits, Michael Snow, Andy Warhol
Unfortunately, due to the nationwide lockdown, we are not able to present the following film programs at the "Invisible Cinema"
as originally planned. We are working on ways to share them with you next year.
POSTPONED TO 2022In a series of 10 two-hour talks, we will bring several of women film pioneers front and center, screen individual films, and shed light on their work with film clips. Everything starts with a script. And so begins the series with screenwriter, writer, actress and co-founder of the Austrian Drehbuchforum Hilde Berger.
