"Seeing through the eyes of another person" is a precise description of what cinema makes possible. Two ways of engaging with Robert Kramer from two of the people who were closest to him: I'll Be Your Eyes, You'll Be Mine has Kramer's daughter Keja Ho collaborate with filmmaker Stephen Dwoskin to explore the special relationship between her and her father. Rather than carrying out a systematic survey of Kramer's work, the film is a loosely woven web of associations, locations and conversations, including with fetish photographer Eric Kroll. A cinematic work of mourning. In Looking for Robert, Richard Copans looks back on the years he spent with Kramer. His tender gaze takes the form of a video letter to a friend, interspersed with sequences from Kramer's films and documents from their collaboration. Towards the end, the young lovers from the Bridgeport sequence in Route One/USA (1989) rehearse their wedding vows: Looking for Robert is also a declaration of love to Robert Kramer. (V.P.)
