Pickpocket, 1959, Robert Bresson

"Pickpocket" and "The Wizard of Oz"

Pickpocket: December 15 / The Wizard of Oz: December 23 & 24, 2012

Marika Green, the lead actress in Robert Bresson’s Pickpocket (1959), has published a photo book that chronicles four generations of the Green family – lives which were closely intertwined with the medium of photography.

In the photographs, taken between 1894 and 2010, one comes across Marika’s Swedish grandmother and a pioneer of European photography, Mia Green, her father Lennart Green, documenter of the Paris art scene and film world in the Post-war years, and her niece Eva Green, the film actress and one of today’s top models.

To mark the exhibition of the photographs in Vienna, and as a “taster” of its upcoming Robert Bresson Retrospective (March 2013), the Film Museum presents Pickpocket in the presence of Marika Green. The exhibition GREEN. Photographic Sights – Images 1894-2012runs from December 17 to January 9 at the Galerie Edition Photo (Gonzagagasse 20, 1010 Vienna).

For Christmas, on the evening of December 23 and again on the afternoon of December 24, the Film Museum presents the MGM classic The Wizard of Oz (1939).
