Emily Artman
In Memoriam
May 27, 2026
Film editor and poet Emily Artmann passed away in January of this year. Artmann addressed her work and fellow human beings with non-judgmental curiosity and an empathetic spirit. An artist with words, she published two volumes of poetry. in einem mantel aus fischhaut (2021), the first volume, she approached historical figures using free, but precise associations. Arboretum (2025) was dedicated to her beloved garden and her plants. As an editor, her approach was similar to how she combined words, seeking out the central theme behind the images, which she usually found quickly, lightheartedly, but never carelessly shedding ballast.
On this evening, the Austrian Film Museum in collaboration with the Diagonale remembers filmmaker and poet Emily Artmann. (Andrea Pollach / Translation: Ted Fendt)
