Ausschnitt / Excerpt
It's the pictures that count. The aria is the climax and the plot is as follows: the Tower of Babel, the home of the termits, collapses. The whore (Babylon) – now without a home – resides in the canals of an imaginary city, opens a bar and casts pearls before swine. We accompany a not so young couple for a little stretch of their desperate life on an odyssee through the canals: one more down here = one less up there! They land before the pots of Babylon which invite them for a cannibalistic dinner. Babylon can sing EVERYTHING and must leave."With Suvlaki ist Babylon: komm isst mit mir, Mara Mattuschka has made a wild, provocative, droll, and "subreal" movie in which she recounts the bizarre life of the whore of Babylon: a fat broad and ruler of the urban underworld – excellent dialogue and transitions that overwhelm you without warning."
