As astonishment and rapture, the form of ecstasy is what links Ja' Tovia Gary's An Ecstatic Experience (2015), Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński's Fleshbacks (2021), Onyeka Igwe's A Radical Duet (2023) and Monica de Miranda's A Path to the Stars (2022). Ideas concerning the liberation and freedom of Black women, the indeterminate space between past and present, an anti-colonial theater piece in the here and now, and a former liberation fighter who nearly merges with the Kwanza, Angola's longest river, also refer to ecstasy as dislocation, in the sense of no longer being in the same place due to flight and movement. Once again, the central importance of water and its flowing movement in African diaspora thinking becomes evident. (B.K.-K.)
