From November 14 to 30, 2008, the Film Museum held an extensive retrospective of the work of Austrian filmmaker Michael Pilz (*1943) with a wide selection ranging from documentaries to fiction films, educational and experimental films to travelogues and visual diaries. Coinciding with the show, the Film Museum published the first monograph devoted to Pilz. On November 17, the filmmaker – who has also taught regularly in Austria and abroad since 1983 – held a lecture titled "Langsam Gehen" (Walk Slowly) during which he spoke at length about his artistic methods, comparing them in the extract presented here to those of sculptor Karl Prantl and composer John Cage.
