Close-Up
Leave no Trace
Debra Granik (US 2018)
In the massive forest of the American Pacific Northwest, a father and daughter live cut off from the nearby big city. Their life outside social norms (and their encounters with them) becomes the culminating point of several different strands. Leave No Trace is both the story of a father-daughter relationship and a war veteran who no longer feels comfortable in a once familiar society. It is also a reflection on alternative forms of living together and solidarity, and how they are made possible (or impossible). And, last but not least, especially after so many months of watching movies on the tiniest screens, a film worth seeing in theaters. (S.H.)
The screening (D: Debra Granik, 109 min) in original English version will be followed by 60-minute discussion of selected sequences.
