Film Colors

Contrary to popular belief, the early years of cinema were not only black and white: great ingenuity and painstaking labor were directed towards coloring each individual frame or submerging the entire filmstrip in color baths. When cameras were finally able to record the world's colors directly on film, cinema became more realistic and expressionistic. This lecture will present a wide variety of different kinds of color films in order to discover the new means of expression they provided to the movies. (sh)
