Cinema Futures
2012 marked the final stage of transition from analogue film to digital image as industrial standard. This change raises a number of questions: What will happen with the film stock from 120 years of cinema history which have lost their commercial value? For how long and in which way can digital productions be preserved or screened? Michael Palm's essayfilm Cinema Futures follows up on these questions in the world of archives and puts them into a relation to an even bigger one: What will remain of humankind when its memory, its history, its recollection will have lost their material basis to hover through the net as binary code? In the Studio with Michael Palm will deal with these matters through a discussion of the film with its director.
