What Big Eyes You Have!

In the past few years, the popularity of Japanese animated films, or anime, has increased in Europe. What specific qualities differentiate these animations from those from the "West"? With the help of film clips, we will analyze typical stylistic elements ranging from the characters' large eyes and minimally sketched traits to specific visual codes. We will also examine the close connection between film style and Japanese culture and the influence of manga, or Japanese comics, on anime.
