Collection on Screen:

Alexandre Desplat

January 15 to February 29, 2024

After last year's Collection on Screen program to complement Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi's guest appearance in the Große Musikvereinssaal of the Vienna Symphony, we are now pleased to introduce the conducting engagement of Alexandre Desplat with a selection of films from our collection. Born in Paris, Desplat has written scores for over 170 films and already received two Oscars, Grammys and Golden Globes as well as countless nominations for his work. Thanks to his ambitious and subtle compositions, he is in high demand for countless film projects. We have chosen three titles from our collection that prove Desplat's almost magical skill as a composer to fit into different directing styles (and strengthen them). In this case, the spectrum runs from a French neo-noir (De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté, Jacques Audiard, 2005), to docudrama (Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow, 2012) and Wes Anderson's animated tricks (Fantastic Mr. Fox, 2009).

On March 1, 2024, Alexandre Desplat will conduct the Vienna Symphony and present a selection of his award-winning film scores in the concert series Cinema:sound in the Großen Saal of the Wiener Musikverein. (Translation: Ted Fendt)
