In Memoriam Thomas Heise

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Thomas Heise, who died on May 29, 2024 after a short, difficult illness at the age of 68 in Berlin. He was not only a major filmmaker, who precisely and elegantly dealt with the relationship of film and history, the archive and the present, and image and sound, but also a long-standing friend of the Film Museum. Most recently, he was our guest in December 2019 for a screening of his film Heimat ist ein Raum aus Zeit. In his memory, on June 9, we will show this "family film spanning from Wilhelmian Germany to the present. A history lesson made out of the ruins and monuments of private life."
