Unsere Sammlungen ziehen um

Das Jahr 2025 ist für das Österreichische Filmmuseum ein bedeutendes Jahr: wir beziehen im Arsenal im 3. Bezirk ein brandneues Sammlungsgebäude, mit dem modernsten Filmlager Österreichs und mit neuen Arbeitsplätzen für die Filmbearbeitung und -erforschung. Mit dem Filmmuseum LAB schaffen wir optimale Bedingungen für die Pflege unserer Sammlungen.

Das bedeutet allerdings auch, dass wir vor der logistischen Herausforderung stehen, all unsere Sammlungsbestände – darunter rund 38.000 Filme –, Arbeitsgeräte, Mobiliar sowie mehr als ein Dutzend Mitarbeiter*innen vom alten Standort im 19. Bezirk an den neuen zu bewegen.

An eine einfache und gewohnte Nutzung der Filmsammlung ist im Zuge dessen naheliegenderweise nicht zu denken. Um diesen Umzug so reibungslos wie möglich zu bewältigen, ist es notwendig, den Zugriff auf die Filmsammlung bis auf Weiteres einzuschränken. Auch Anfragen an die Kolleg*innen der Filmsammlung können ab Anfang Februar bis voraussichtlich Ende April 2025 nicht bearbeitet werden.

Selbstverständlich sind unsere Kinovorführungen davon nicht betroffen und werden ungehindert stattfinden.

Wir bemühen uns, die gewohnten Abläufe so schnell wie möglich wiederherzustellen und bedanken uns für Ihr Verständnis!

Our collections are being relocated

2025 is an important year for the Austrian Film Museum: we are moving into a brand-new collection building at the Arsenal in Vienna's 3rd district, which includes the most modern film storage facility in Austria and new workplaces for our film research. The Filmmuseum LAB will enable us to create optimal conditions for the maintenance of our collections.

This means that we are faced with the logistical challenge of moving all of our collection items – including around 38,000 films – as well as equipment, furniture and more than a dozen employees from the old location in the 19th district to the new one.

During this process it is not possible to access the film collection as usual. To manage this relocation as smoothly as possible, it is necessary to restrict access to the film collection until further notice. Enquiries to our colleagues from the film collection will also not be answered from the beginning of February until the end of April 2025.

Of course, our screenings at the "Invisible Cinema" will not be affected and will take place as usual.

We will endeavor to restore the usual processes as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding!
