ZWEI FILME VON MICHAEL SNOW The most significant experimental filmmaker in the world, and also a famous painter, sculptor and musician, for over 50 years, Michael Snow (*1929, Toronto) has created a succession of artis- tically radical films that have revolutionized cinema, stimulated many imitators and encouraged the development of new critical theories about film. His work, though precisely formal, has a poetic and metaphoric level (and often an engaging sense of wit and a delight in paradoxes) that distinguishes him from the structuralist-materialist filmmakers who emerged in Britain and the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. (PETER MORRIS, THE FILM COMPANION) Das Österreichische Filmmuseum besitzt zahlreiche Hauptwerke von Michael Snow, die im Zyklischen Programm Was ist Film regelmäßig gezeigt werden. Zwei seiner schönsten und meist- unterschätzten Filme, New York Eye and Ear Control (1964) und Standard Time (1967), stellen jedoch eine Lücke in der Sammlung dar. Die vorjährige Einladung an Snow durch die Wiener SECES- SION und das Filmmuseum, seine Werke im Kontext der bilden- den Kunst und des Films persönlich vorzustellen, erneuerte die Beziehung zwischen dem Filmmuseum und Michael Snow. Die beiden Filme können nun direkt vom Künstler für die Sammlung erworben werden.
